Phonemic Awareness & Phonics

At P.S. 66, we believe strong reading skills start early. In Kindergarten through 2nd grade, our teachers use two research-based programs—Heggerty and From Phonics to Reading—to help children become confident, successful readers.

Heggerty: Short daily lessons that help students hear, recognize, and play with the sounds in words. These skills build a strong foundation for reading.

From Phonics to Reading: A program that teaches children how to connect letters and sounds so they can read and spell words with confidence.
