Phonemic Awareness & Phonics

At P.S. 66, we are committed to building strong, confident readers from the very start. In grades Kindergarten through 2nd grade, our teachers use two research-based programs, Heggerty and From Phonics to Reading, to develop essential phonemic awareness and phonics skills.

• Heggerty: Daily lessons that focus on strengthening students' ability to hear, identify, and manipulate sounds in spoken words—essential skills for building a strong foundation in reading.
• From Phonics to Reading: A phonics program that helps students connect sounds to letters and decode words with confidence.
